The 1300s were filled with disasters, both natural and human-made.  The Church seemed to be thriving but soon would face a huge division.  A deadly epidemic claimed millions of lives.  So many people died in the epidemic that the structure of the economy changed.  Claims to thrones in France and England led to wars in those lands.  The wars would result in changes in the governments of both France and England.  By the end of the century, the medieval way of life was beginning to disappear.

Day 1

Dear World Historians,
My son is sick today so I am home with him.

Please do the following during class today:

12.1 is about the great legacies of the Tang and Song Chinese dynasties.  After the Han Dynasty collapsed in AD 220 no emperor was strong enough to hold China together.  Over the next 350 years more thn 30 local dynasties rose and fell.  Finally by 589 an emperor named Wendi had united northern and southern China once again. He restored a strong central government.  Under the next two dynasties, the Song and Tang, China experienced a prolonged golden age,  It became the richest, most powerful and most advanced country in the world.  This was due to it's many innovations.

You are going to create a 1 minute infomercial that highlights one of these innovations from Ch 12.1  (go to your book and get some background info about your invention).

1.  Go to youtube or QVC and watch a few infomercials with your group so you can see the elements of this type of ad (Magic Bullet, FoodSaver, Vitamix, etc).

2.  You will show how your invention works, why life will be better if I purchase this item, cost, cultural diffusion.
Informercials are fast paced, upbeat, high energy and VERY convincing and NEVER boring! Get creative and have fun with this!  We will see which product is the most popular amongst our class!

3.  These are due at the end of the period.

4. Groups
A. Porcelain (Capaccio, Cavalier, Chen, Stiegeler)
